Library Giving Day and National Library Month: Three Ways to Support Your Libraries Today!

April is Library Month! National Library Week, April 7-13

Help us reach our $2,500 fundraising goal for National Library Month, which includes Library Giving Day on April 3 and National Library Week April 7-13.

Three things you can do to raise support for the 12 Long Beach Public Libraries:

  1. Email your friends and family and ask them to support the Library Foundation. Send them this donation link: https://bit.ly/nationallibrarymonth
  2. Create a Facebook Fundraiser and make a donation yourself to inspire others to give
  3. Post on social media using your favorite photo of the library and add this donation link: https://bit.ly/nationallibrarymonth

Monday, April 8: Right to Read Day is a National Day of Action in support of the right to read. The State of America’s Libraries Report is released, including Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023. #RightToReadDay

Tuesday, April 9:National Library Workers Day, a day for everyone to recognize the valuable contributions made by library workers. #NLWD24

Wednesday, April 10: National Library Outreach Day, a day the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. #LibraryOutreachDay

Thursday, April 11:Take Action for Libraries Day, a day for all library advocates to affirm their participation in 2024 elections. #TakeActionForLibraries

1. The window below will appear with “Long Beach Public Library Foundation” automatically set as the organization you are raising money for.

2.Scroll through the “Details” section on the left and:

  • Enter your goal for “How much money do you want to raise?”
  • Enter April 30 for “When should your fundraiser end?”
  • Add a message for “Why are you raising money?” such as:

 April is Library Month! As a Long Beach Public Library Foundation supporter, I call on you to join me in supporting free educational resources for the Long Beach students and families who need help getting back on track.

The Library’s dynamic literacy programs, STEAM workshops, and one-on-one homework help are needed now more than ever to help kids succeed and thrive. Recently released student test scores show the pandemic’s continuing impact on student achievement. In grade level equivalents related to the 2019 national average, Long Beach Unified students made some improvement last year, but are still down 88% of a grade level in math and 45% of a grade level in reading, falling behind similar districts in California and California as a whole. Our students need our help to get back on track and the Library Foundation is committed to making an impact with the programs it funds like free one-on-one tutoring in the Library’s Family Learning Centers.

At the 12 public libraries, the Library Foundation funds many early literacy programs in English and Spanish including Dive into Learning and the annual Summer Reading program. The Library Foundation also funds the Family Learning Center program which provides one-on-one tutoring for students of all ages and job search support for their families.

4. Invite your friends! This is the best way to tell all your friends about your fundraiser. Facebook gives you the option to invite either all of your friends or to select individual friends to donate to the fundraiser. Those who have been invited will receive a notification.

5. Share your fundraiser and re-share throughout April to get more support.
