Long Beach Public Library Foundation

The New Main is on its way!

If you’ve visited the Main Library in the last few weeks, you’ll have noticed the sweeping lengths of blue fencing all around Lincoln Park, City Hall, and the library. Work has begun on the new Civic Center, and we’re keeping a close eye on the progress. The new Main Library will be built on the corner of Broadway and Pacific, overlooking a brand new park and unique amenities. You can take a look at the renderings from Plenary-Edgemoor Civic Partners on the project’s website. The Foundation looks forward to taking a special part in supporting the new library’s development, ensuring that the facility opens at full capacity—with programs, resources, and dynamic spaces available to our patrons.

The library will be the largest amenity in the new park at 93,000 square feet. A warm and inviting space surrounded by natural light and overhung by wood beamed ceilings, the glass façade is intended to bring together outdoors and in as a social, multi-use space. All of the services you expect from our main library will be enhanced with climate controlled spaces for special collections, increased access for our disabled patrons, an expanded Studio space, updated children’s spaces with classes and activities for families, multimedia workstations for students, and energy efficient systems throughout.

The project is about three years away from completion, but we can’t wait to move in and explore the new Main Library!
