Mission Statement
The Long Beach Public Library Foundation proudly supports and advocates for all 12 Long Beach Public Library locations, ensuring they remain vibrant spaces where everyone belongs and has access to the resources they need to thrive. Our primary goal is to encourage literacy and education for all members of the community, including children, teens, families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.

Our Impact
Founded in 1996 by concerned citizens when Long Beach libraries ranked near the bottom nationwide in per capita spending, the Foundation has since raised over $29 million in endowments and program funds. These resources support vital youth and literacy programs and purchase books, technology, and materials that cannot be supplied with existing city funds.
Today, the Long Beach Public Library serves as an essential component of our city’s educational infrastructure, providing academic support services and access to new technologies. Our innovative, community-centered approach earned the Long Beach Public Library the prestigious National Medal for Museum and Library Services, which honors organizations that “demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service, exceeding the expected levels of community outreach.”
