2021 marks two important anniversaries — the Long Beach Public Library Foundation’s 25th and the Long Beach Public Library’s 125th year of service to the Long Beach community. In 1996, our founders — Margaret Durnin, Bob Kilpatrick, Helena Belisle, and Robert Campbell — formed the Library Foundation to fund enhancements to the Long Beach Public Library. 25 years later, our organization has raised more than $25 million to support technology, programs, and resources at the City’s 12 public libraries as well as online educational resources.
We believe libraries are the best investment one can make in Long Beach as they are on the front-lines of our city’s most pressing issues – from closing the digital divide, addressing homelessness and poverty, early-childhood education, helping veterans, people with disabilities, and older adults, and everyone in between. But we need your help to continue this important work.
Join our year-long celebration by donating $25 or more to be recognized as a 25th Anniversary Supporter. If you choose to set up a quarterly, monthly, or weekly recurring donation during the Library Foundation’s 25th anniversary year, your donations will be matched by an anonymous donor up to a total of $6,000. No matter the size, your gift helps the Library transform lives!
“Libraries are an important resource for communities in recovering from a public health crisis and corresponding economic uncertainty because they provide a safe place for the public to access free resources and provide job assistance and economic inclusion services.”
