A dictionary is perhaps the first and most important reference tool that a child should own. Its usefulness goes beyond spelling, pronunciation and definitions; it is a companion for solving problems that arise as a child develops his or her reading, writing and creative thinking abilities. Over
100,000 third grade students throughout Long Beach have received a student dictionary from the Library Foundation, thanks to the Earl B. and Loraine H. Miller Foundation and donors like you.
This year, in celebration of National Library Month, Dictionary Days was hosted in
April at two of the Branch Libraries and at the beautiful Downtown Main Library.
Children and parents got to participate in word games, scavenger hunts and lots
of library fun.
