About Us

Message From Our Board President

On behalf of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation Board of Directors, we'd like to thank you for visiting our website.

With your financial assistance, we have been able to sustain and support an literacy programs that benefit the entire City of Long Beach.  Your donations make the following programs possible:

  • Family Learning Centers, where all children can receive assisted bilingual homework help, access the latest technology, data and research resources, and where adults can learn to improve their language technology and job skills,

  • Raising A Reader, where preschool children who are preparing for kindergarten and learning are introduced to the joy of reading and the wonders that books hold,

  • Dictionary Day, where all third graders attending Long Beach schools are given their own dictionary and taught how to use it,

  • Homebound Services, where homebound residents who can not visit a public library can receive books and DVD's by mail or have them personally delivered by Meals on Wheels Long Beach, our community partner,

  • Long Beach Reads One Book, a citywide celebration of reading when everyone in Long beach is invited to read the same book and enjoy a week-long series of events centered around themes of the book.

Aren't these exciting programs and aren't we lucky to have them?

The Long Beach Public Library Foundation is so very grateful for your generosity and for your help in Promoting Literacy One Reader at a Time.

Your fellow reader,

Les Starck

P.S. If you have not already visited the newly constructed Mark Twain Library (1401 E. Anaheim Street, 90813), you have missed a rare gem in the City of Long Beach.  Make plans to do so soon.  I think you will be suitably impressed!
